Our man in Shibuya, Tokyo returns with a blistering set of dance floor orientated jazz for our listening pleasure. DJ and producer Hironobu Jyounai (PRIMO) blesses us with just under sixty minutes of assorted goodies, including plenty of hard-bop and rare records we can only wish we could get our grubby mitts on. He starts off with a brilliant Japanese only date for trumpeter Charles Sullivan before plundering the depths of great European Jazz with a little Walter Sterath, Björk Guðmundsdótti, Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar, Erol Pekcan, Tuna Ötenel and Kudret Öztoprak. Sambossa 5 give us classic Jazz Samba, there’s Danish jazz from Axen-Jaedig Jazz Groups and South American goodness from Agrupacion Nuevo Jazz. Elsewhere, there’s stone cold hard bop classics from Art Blakey and Hank Mobley while The Diamond Five serve up their own take on the sound with ‘Johnny’s Birthday’. Things round up with Hiromasa Suzuki Trio and the deep ‘Ja-Mil’ from The Detroit Jazz Composers Ltd.
